The document in question here was kept in a private archive in Plouzané. The parchment cover bears an almost faded inscription: Hervé Gélébart, who was, as he himself tells us, ‘a schoolboy in Brest’. In fact, it contains operations and texts. The first date that appears is 25 February 1756. Apart from some information on the teaching provided in a Brest ‘school’ in the second half of the 18th century, the interest of the document lies mainly in the use that Hervé Gélébart made of his notebook thereafter. Over the years, between 1766 and 1783, he wrote down a certain amount of practical information of various kinds, including medicinal recipes: 13 in total, 7 in Breton and 6 in French.
Le document dont il est ici question a été conservé dans des archives particulières, à Plouzané. La couverture parcheminée porte une inscription presqu’effacée : Hervé Gélébart, qui était, il nous l’apprend lui-même, « ecolier a brest ». De fait, on y trouve des opérations et des textes. La première date qui y apparaît indique le 25 février 1756. Au-delà de quelques informations fournies sur l’enseignement dispensé dans une “école” brestoise de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, l’intérêt du document vient surtout de l’usage qu’Hervé Gélébart a fait de son cahier par la suite. Il y a inscrit au fil des années, entre 1766 et 1783, un certain nombre de renseignements pratiques de différente nature et parmi ceux-ci des recettes médicinales : 13 au total, 7 en langue bretonne, 6 en français.
